Our Story

2003

A partnership with her father sparked Stephanie Gripne’s passion for impact investing. Together, Stephanie and her father launched an affordable housing model that gave families in medical bankruptcy a house, partial equity of their rent, and all equity over a 10% return. Discovering that you could make a financial return by doing good set Dr. Steph on the path to inspire other capital stewards to do the same.

2005

Stephanie Gripne earned a Ph.D. in Wildlife Conservation at the University of Montana and working for the USDA Forest Service, Dr. Steph was on track to become a restoration ecologist.

2010-2012

Recognizing a gap in investor education.

2012

Dr. Steph founded Impact Finance Center.

2015

Impact Finance Center launched a three-year initiative called Colorado Impact Days, a marketplace for investors to discover social ventures aligned with their values.

2016

CO Impact Days year 1 is held, convening 400 impact investors, philanthropists, family offices and foundations. A state-wide Call for Deals led to 60 Social Ventures showcase their investment opportunities to the impact investors.

2018

CO Impact Days year 2 is held.

2019

CO Impact Days year 3 is held. CO Impact Days was a resounding success catalyzing over $350M.

2020

Impact Finance Center pivoted from its in-person education model to an online Investor Club platform providing the flexibility to scale. We launched marketplaces from coast to coast covering interests, identities, and places from sustainable forestry to affordable housing. This spawned opportunities to expand our educational offerings. We have since created customized educational cohorts for various foundations and corporations. With limited resources, Impact Finance Center created the Impact Investing Institute which aims to serve as a primer for our more personalized education.

Today

We have come a long way since our humble beginnings in 2012 and are expanding quickly. But, no matter our scale, we remain committed to providing non-conflicted investing education teaching you how to do well by doing good.

Vision

We envision a world where all investments produce a financial return and a positive impact on people and the planet. By 2030 our replicable and scalable National Impact Investing Marketplace infrastructure will help catalyze $1Trillion for good.

Values

As innovative movement builders and thought leaders, we constantly strive to be inclusive to all communities and remain non-conflicted in our education and services. To us, big problems are even bigger opportunities. In an effort to solve these problems, we surround ourselves with thought partners that expand our perspective and challenge our assumptions. We are community-led, innovating new tools and financial products as needed to unlock full spectrum, catalytic capital.

Mission

Our mission is to identify, educate, and activate impact investors, develop the replicable and scalable community infrastructure for them to learn, connect, and invest, and unlock full spectrum, catalytic capital to benefit people and the planet.

IFC has prioritized five areas of focus that align with our mission to expand the world of impact investing. The strategy in each of these areas is designed to identify, train, and activate philanthropists and investors to become impact investors.
